The Rhythmic Team at Red River Valley Gymnastics is a competitive team following the USA Gymnastics program. The competitive levels are levels 3-10. In the early levels 3-5, the gymnasts work on perfecting their body skills and basic dance movements in a floor routine, and they practice their apparatus handling using the ball, rope, and hoop routine. Beginning at level 6 and continuing through level 10, the gymnasts build their dance and gymnastics skill level while incorporating all five of the apparatus: rope, hoop, ball, clubs, and ribbon. The floor routine is still incorporated in levels 3-8 to perfect the higher-level gymnastics and dance skills, but level 9-10 focus specifically on routines using the five apparatus.
Their are many values of being on a competitive team, and rhythmic gymnastics is no exception. The gymnasts learn self-esteem, self motivation, self-discipline, self-confidence, dedication, work ethic, teamwork, team spirit, team leadership, sportsmanship, and of course grace and poise. The competitive team experience is very good in promoting the life skills the gymnasts will need throughout their adult lives.
